“Hi! We’re Jonathan and Kacey. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We have a deep respect for you and the courage it takes to consider adoption. Adoption is personal to our family because Kacey was adopted as a baby, so we understand it isn’t a single event; it’s a lifelong story. Letters

Hello,

We are also open to an ongoing relationship in whatever way feels right to you.

We are Jonathan and Kacey, and we are truly honored that you are taking the time to read our book and learn about our family. Wherever you are in this moment, we want you to know that we have deep respect for you. We understand that this season may feel uncertain, and we acknowledge the courage it takes to explore your options and consider what you want in this moment.
Because Kacey was adopted as a baby, we understand that adoption is not just a single event; it is a lifelong story. If you choose adoption and choose us to parent your child, we promise that we will love them wholeheartedly and unconditionally. We will create a home where they feel safe, cherished, and encouraged to grow into healthy and thriving adults. We are committed to honoring your child’s birth story with openness and respect, and to speaking about you with kindness and gratitude.
We are also open to an ongoing relationship in whatever way feels right to you. We would love to share photos, updates, and meaningful moments, and we would welcome a connection that supports your child and respects your comfort and boundaries. We believe a child can never have too much love.
Our child will grow up surrounded by steady love, adventure, laughter, good food, music, and the support of close friends and family who are ready to open their arms. Thank you for considering our family and for allowing us to share a little of our hearts with you.

WHY WE WANT TO ADOPT

Our family and friends couldn't be more excited for us!

We have always known that we wanted to build a family and raise a child with the same kind of love, support, and closeness that we each grew up with. We are very close to our families, and we hope to share that sense of belonging, encouragement, and togetherness with a child.

Adoption has felt like a natural and meaningful path for us, especially because Kacey was adopted as a baby. Even though it was an open adoption, contact was limited, and there were no visits until adulthood. That experience shaped how we think about adoption today. It showed us how important connection can be, and how much it can mean to have access to your story and the people who are part of it. Kacey’s birth mother later had three other sons, and learning more about that side of the family as an adult brought both clarity and a deeper appreciation for how valuable those connections can be.

Because of this, if you are open to it, we would truly want to build a relationship with you and your family in a way that feels respectful, comfortable, and supportive. We believe a child can never have too much love, and we would feel honored to help make sure they grow up knowing where they come from and knowing that their birth family will always be a part of them.

Our Story

Kacey’s high school English teacher set us up after meeting Jonathan through a college group he volunteered with.

We first met in 2015 in a way that still makes us smile. Kacey’s high school English teacher set us up after meeting Jonathan through a college group he volunteered with. He and his wife even cooked us dinner. They were right, and we hit it off right away. Over the next few months, we bonded over hiking, good food, and trips to the coast.

Life took us in different directions for a while, but we stayed friends through moves to the Bay Area and New York, and we continued to cross paths over the years. Then in 2020, Jonathan moved back to California, and we realized the timing was finally right. We got back together and moved in together in a house in the woods, where we discovered that we make a great team and love building a life close to nature.

We got married in 2023, surrounded by friends and family, and later bought a home in the forests of Northern California that we have been renovating together. When we aren’t working on our house, we love taking walks downtown, thrifting, or having dinners with friends. We both work from home, which also lets us travel when we can, including joining Kacey on work trips to places like Italy, the Middle East, Mexico, and Easter Island. We love our mountain community and feel grateful for the life we have created together.

OUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO TOGETHER

  • Kitty Cuddles – We love our cat, Kittybaby, especially when she feels like cuddling.
  • Hot dogs – While we enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, we both agree that nothing beats a hot dog, except maybe a corn dog.
  • Travel – Visiting our friends who live around the world makes us feel really lucky.
  • Heading to the Beach – Although we now live in the mountains, the beach was a part of both our childhoods and is a great place to recharge.
  • Home Renovation – We discovered that we are a great tiling team, although our backs are sore the next day.
  • British Television – We enjoy watching British shows, but also love documentaries, science fiction, fantasy, and competition reality shows.

MEET KACEY (Written by Jonathan)

Kacey has a joyful heart, a playful spirit, and a love for the world that he is eager to share

Kacey grew up in a close-knit family where connection was part of everyday life. He could walk down the street to visit his grandpa, and he spent a lot of time with his cousins and extended family. He was adopted as a baby, and adoption has always been a meaningful part of his story. He was an only child for many years, until his sister joined the family through adoption, too, and it shaped the way he understands belonging, love, and family.

Kacey is curious, engaging, and hard-working. As a kid, he often played outside, climbing trees, finding cool rocks, and paying attention to the world around him. He developed an interest in archaeology, culture, and languages and became fluent in Spanish and Italian. When we first started dating, we would go on hikes, and I noticed he could recognize all types of birds, identify shells on the beach, and explain how they were used by Native Americans, or casually teach me about an animal I had never even heard of. His infectious enthusiasm and communication skills enable him to connect with just about anyone.

What I love most is how Kacey shows care through action. He is the person who will quietly do the dishes at someone else’s house, spend a full day helping a friend move, or go out of his way to make sure someone feels included and supported. He works hard, doesn’t shy away from what needs to be done, leads with fairness, and shows up in practical ways.

Kacey has the best job, in my opinion, which allows him to combine all of his interests and talents. They document culturally significant sites and help share why these places are important. It is meaningful work that introduces him to people and communities all over the world, and he brings that sense of respect and wonder home with him.

Outside of work, he enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, photography, playing volleyball, volunteering for our local LGBTQ organization, and spending time outdoors. He’s the one making us breakfast, playing music around the house, and suggesting a walk outside.

I know he will be a wonderful dad: protective, fair, endlessly loving, and with the right amount of silliness. It’s easy to see how natural he is around little ones. He will raise a child who feels deeply loved, confidently themselves, and curious about the world, always knowing they are supported every step of the way.

FUN FACTS

  • His birthmom is also adopted!
  • He doesn’t drink coffee. No caffeine necessary, which I find extraordinary.
  • He loves jello and pickles, but not together 😉

MEET JONATHAN (Written by Kacey)

With Jonathan, our home feels steady, creative, and full of love

Jonathan grew up with two older brothers in a musical and artistic family that encouraged creativity from the very beginning. His parents were both educators, and that support helped shape who he is today. He has a beautiful singing voice, plays the piano, and possesses a natural ability to quickly pick up new artistic skills. One of my favorite examples is when he bought a used guitar and taught himself a song overnight just so he could play it for me. I cried.

When he was in high school, he competed in Irish dancing, including a trip to Ireland, and he still possesses an incredible sense of rhythm and focus. These days, his creativity shows up in so many ways. He paints, sings with his friends, and also loves thrifting and finding hidden gems. He always gets excited about a good deal.

Jonathan is also the sweetest person I know. He is thoughtful, steady, and the kind of partner who helps us make careful decisions by doing the research and thinking things through. He loves to cook and is always experimenting and coming up with new recipes for us. At home, he is the gentlest cat dad. If Kittybaby is sleeping on the bed, he will quietly grab extra blankets for himself rather than disturb her.

Jonathan works as a data scientist, using his analytical mind to find patterns and simplify complicated ideas. He is also a loyal friend and a deeply caring partner, and I know he will be a wonderful father who leads with kindness, protects our child, and fills our home with love, music, and laughter.

Before becoming a data scientist, Jonathan took several meaningful paths, including working as a high school math and physics teacher, a nonprofit worker, and a chef. Those experiences shaped his patience, curiosity, and big heart, and they also mean our child will have plenty of support with future math homework.

FUN FACTS

  • Jonathan can quote the movies Bridesmaids, Hook, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding by heart.
  • He loves a dad joke and always finds the best memes to share with me.
  • He is always willing to help create a spreadsheet when we need to make a thoughtful decision.

THANK YOU!

We deeply respect whatever you are carrying as you think about what is best for you at this time.

KIND WORDS – From the Children in Our Life

“I think they would be good dads because they look like my dads and they have a cat which melts my heart”  – BEAU – AGE 5

“In my opinion, they’d be great parents because they’re kind, loving people with really beautiful hearts—and having a baby is something wonderful, so I’m sure they’ll be amazing parents.”  -TEA – AGE 13

“Uncle Kacey & Jonathan would be really fun dads… and I already have lots of cousins, so the baby would just be one more.”  -N O A – A G E 5

“They dress up in dad clothes, and because they play with me and are loving”  -NORA- AGE 3.5

Wishing you peace and certainty

THANK YOU FOR SPENDING A FEW MOMENTS WITH OUR STORY!

We understand that considering adoption can bring up many emotions and questions, and we deeply respect whatever you are carrying as you think about what is best for you at this time.

If you choose adoption and choose our family, we promise to love your child wholeheartedly and unconditionally. We will give them a safe, steady home where they are celebrated for exactly who they are. We will listen to them, support their dreams, and show up for them every day. We will help them feel connected to the wider world and work to equip them with the skills and confidence to grow into successful, grounded adults. Our friends and family will embrace them fully, too, and promise that their life will be filled with meaningful relationships, curiosity, and opportunities to explore.

We also promise to honor their full story. We will speak about you with respect and kindness, and we will make sure your child grows up knowing their story began with love. If you would like to maintain an ongoing connection, we are open to sharing updates, photos, and meaningful moments in a way that feels comfortable and respectful to you, and we would welcome you as an important part of our lives.

No matter what you decide, we wish you support, peace, and people around you who care for you well. Thank you again for considering our family.

-Kacey & Jonathan
